Chromebook Information and Protection Plan Option

Posted Date: 9/18/24 (9:52 AM)

Hello Parents/Guardians and Students,

As part of our 1:1 Chromebook program, students are issued a new chromebook at the start of their 5th and 9th grade school years.  They will keep this device with them for 4 years (until completion of 8th grade or graduation, respectively).  We're sending this message to all parents with students in grades 5-12 to give you more information about the devices and our optional Device Protection Program.

There are certain guidelines and expectations for the use and care of the device. You can find our 1:1 device Policies and Procedures on the District website Technology Department page at www.tsdrockets.org/tech under 1:1 Policies and Documents. There's also a "Frequently Asked Questions" area on the website to help answer questions you may have.

Especially important to review is the “Chromebook Lending Agreement” which explains the program and possible repair costs. Also, the “Chromebook Tips” document sets guidelines and expectations for use of the device.  Please reinforce with your child that the chromebook MUST remain in the provided always-on case at all times and that stickers, markings, etc, should not be placed on the device itself.

We also have a Device Protection Program (DPP) to help shield against unexpected repair costs.  This program is OPTIONAL but highly encouraged.  Full details are in the “Device Protection Plan” document at the web page above. This program has a $25 per year cost and provides one "free" damage claim per year.  And, if you are in the program for the full 4-year life of the device, you will get to keep the chromebook at the end of its cycle.  If you wish to participate in this program, follow the instructions in the “How to Purchase Device Protection” document again on the web page above.

If you have any questions about the Lending Agreement or the Device Protection Program, please contact the Technology Department at 717-734-4478 or cfisher@tsdrockets.org.
